The Inn, a member of the prestigious Select Registry-Distinguished Inns of North America was built as a farmhouse around 1778 and has been operated as an Inn since the mid 1800’s. Jackson and the surrounding areas of North Conway and Bartlett are nestled in the eastern slope region of Mt. Washington, New England's highest peak (6288'), and are collectively called the Mt. Washington Valley. The area has been a renowned summer resort since the 1700's, and a winter resort since the early 1930's. In the November ’05 issue of Men’s Journal, the Mt. Washington Valley area was noted as “one of the top ten coolest mountain towns in North America”. It shared this title with such other notable communities as Lake Placid, NY; Telluride, CO; Park City, UT; South Lake Tahoe, CA and Whistler, British Columbia.
